Sanford Health Regenerative Medicine: Orthobiologics
What is regenerative medicine?
Regenerative medicine includes the generation and use of therapeutic stem cells to treat a disease or injury. While it is not perfectly understood how these cells work, they may be able to repair diseased or damaged tissues and serve as natural anti-inflammatory mechanisms.
Orthobiologics, a component of regenerative medicine, are treatments and therapies that use natural substances found in your body to help treat musculoskeletal issues. These types of treatments may reduce the need for pain medication, accelerate healing and improve recovery and can also be an alternative to surgery.
Regenerative medicine and orthobiologics are developing areas of medical treatment. Research is a critical part of any regenerative medicine program and Sanford Health is leading several research projects.
