NFL Alumni Adds To Its Public Educational Campaigns

The event tents are down in New Orleans and the trunks are headed to California for the next two Super Bowls. However, the positive impact of the NFLA’s new programs continues around the country.

NFLA launched the “On 3: Weight. Health. Hike!” campaign at Super Bowl earlier this month to help raise awareness of the impact that weight can have on overall health and to share actions that can be taken to contribute to healthy weight.

“During our time in the NFL, we as players followed strict regiments to keep us healthy,” says NFL Alumni CEO Brad Edwards, a nine-year NFL vet. “The ‘On 3: Weight. Health. Hike.’ campaign enables each of us in our post-playing days to raise awareness of the linkage between obesity and health.”

If you want to learn more and listen to more than 25 NFL alums including Eric Dickerson, Deuce McAllister, Jeff Saturday, Mike Golic, and Roman Oben who talked to the media or shared their own stories, including firsthand accounts of their own weight struggles and keys to success during Super Bowl week, go to www.NFLAon3.org. You will not regret it!

Another NFL Alumni public health program that was discussed in the media at Super Bowl was the “Gear Up Against Cancer” campaign. NFL Alumni is raising awareness about the negative impact of colorectal cancer and the importance of regular screenings for this disease. NFL alums Warren Moon and Will Shields talked to media on Super Bowl Radio Row about the campaign, joining other NFL greats who have lent their voices to the effort, including Warrick Dunn and Jevon Kearse. The campaign is launching in Louisiana next month following its initial roll-out in Georgia and Tennessee two months ago. Three more markets will be added later this year. If you are interested in learning more, go to https://nflagearup.org/cancer.

Finally, the Pacira “Huddle for Health” roundtable that was held in New Orleans on Super Bowl Thursday tackled the critical topic of pain relief through non-opioid pain therapies. Several alumni including Brandon Chubb, Eddie George and Rod Woodson shared their personal experiences with pain management both on and off the field at the event in New Orleans.

NFL Alumni will continue to work with its partners in campaigns such as these to inform and educate its members and the general public on healthcare priorities year-round.
