NFL Vet Charles McRae Brings Top Business Expertise to Alumni Board

Former first round draft choice Charles McRae is the newest member of the national Alumni Board of Directors

McRae, 56, was drafted by the Buccaneers in 1991 and played tackle five seasons in Tampa. He signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Raiders in 1996 and was there one season with the Silver & Black.

After football, McRae returned to his alma mater at the University of Tennessee and earned an MBA degree in 2002.  He put his education to good use by soon starting a successful career in healthcare administration. He was the first Administrator for Vista Radiology, a leading radiology practice in East Tennessee. He has stayed in the healthcare field since that time and currently is President of Anesthesiology Services for Envision Healthcare in Tennessee. In that role, he oversees more than 4,500 professionals in the delivery of anesthesia services nationally.

McRae, and his wife Lori Baxter, have seven children ages 29-7. The husband-wife team also own an Orangetheory Fitness Studio near their Tennessee home.

In his “spare” time, the 6-7 McRae squeezes into the cockpit and uses the pilot’s license he obtained while playing. He has logged more than 1,500 flight hours over the years. Keeping it all in the family, his daughter Isla is a commercial pilot for Allegiant Airlines.

McRae is a longtime supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters and active in other charitable work in the Knoxville area.

“My family and I have been very fortunate over the years and believe in giving back to our community,” says McRae. “Football was a major factor in my later business success. I recently pursued a position on the national Alumni board because of the ‘Caring for Kids’ and ‘Caring for the Community’ emphasis. I also am impressed with the direction and professionalism that (Board Chairman) Tracy Porter and (CEO) Brad Edwards are working to create. I am looking forward to contributing any way I can.”

Charles McRae is just one of many businessmen who used their NFL careers as a springboard to later accomplishments. We in the national office encourage YOU players to get involved with your Alumni brothers on the local or national level.

We are available to assist you in getting started. Please contact COO Ken Coffey (ken.coffey@nflalumni.org), Membership Director James Chambers (James.Chambers@nflalumni.org), or the local Alumni chapter near you.
