It is time for NFL rookies and veterans to put their golf clubs back in the garage because training camps are opening around the league this week.
The Bears and Texans play in the annual early Hall of Fame game in Canton on August 1 so they are allowed to be the first two clubs with their entire teams in camp. Overall, 28 clubs will have everyone in camp by this weekend. The remaining four teams—Falcons, Cowboys, Colts and Steelers—will have full squads on site by Wednesday, July 24.
The days of NFL teams going out of town to have two (if not three) practices a day on college campuses and sleeping in poorly air-conditioned college dorms are behind today’s players. In 2000, there were 21 teams who said goodbye to their families and traveled hundred of miles for camp. This year only eight teams are training out of town. The other 24 are opting to “stay home” and holding camp at their respective practice facility, home stadium, or at a site within 10 miles of team headquarters.
The entire list of camps, reporting dates, and preseason games is here.
We at NFL Alumni hope the 90 players on every training camp roster have safe and (somewhat) humid-free practices in the next few weeks.
