Wyoming Native John Wendling Helps Lead Development In State

NFL alum John Wendling was known as an exceptional special teams player during his seven-year (2007-13) NFL career.

The 39-year-old Wendling these days is working with a special team at the Wyoming Business Council in his home state.

The Business Council, which is the state’s leading economic development agency, works hard to create an effective framework so that Wyoming businesses and communities can thrive.

Wendling and his team of colleagues are leading that development. A Cody (WY) native who grew up downstate in Rock Springs, Wendling joined the Council as a member of its Investments Team in early 2020. He was promoted just six weeks ago to the key Loan Portfolio Manager position at the state-wide organization.

“I have a strong passion for helping Wyoming’s communities and businesses and giving them more opportunities for growth and sustainability,” Wendling explains. “I feel the loan program in which I am involved now is another valuable tool we can use to create partnerships and increase opportunities for businesses in our state to be successful and help grow our local communities and Wyoming’s economy.”

Wendling is in his Rock Springs High School Hall of Fame. He was a three-sport letterman in school and helped lead his alma mater’s football team to an undefeated 2002 state football championship. He enrolled at the University of Wyoming and excelled on defense and special teams during his playing days there. Wendling impressed NFL scouts and he was drafted in the sixth round by the Bills in 2007. After three years in Buffalo, he crossed over Lake Erie and spent his final four seasons with the Lions.

Wendling prepared for his current economic development position by majoring in Business Administration and Finance in college. He was a three-time First Team Academic All-Conference selection and Dean’s List member while at Wyoming.  After his senior year, he was honored by the National Football Foundation (NFF) as one of 17 finalists across the country for NFF’s top athletic & academic achievement award.

Wendling currently lives in Cheyenne with his wife Angela and their three children Gage, Allie and Reed.

During these times of inflation and high-interest rates, you can never be close enough to a loan manager such as John Wendling. If you own a business in Wyoming or plan to start one in the state, your NFL alumni brother is the one to contact.
